"Ladder Ravine" on Burnt Rock Mountain
- Date:
- 1910 - 1935
- Description:
- This historic image shows "Ladder Ravine" on Burnt Rock Mountain. There is a large rocky outcrop in the center of the image that slopes steeply upward from right to left. The rock is covered in moss, and there are ferns growing at the base. A "ladder" has been constructed to help cross the rock. It consists of a vertical logs sunk into the ground, and two horizontal logs stretched between the posts. A woman is using the ladder to traverse the rock. She wears long pants, a long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up, a hat, and a knapsack on her back. One hand holds a walking stick while the other balances on the ladder. In the background, there are multiple deciduous trees.
