- The historic image shows the Winooski River in the flood of 1927. Electric lines and utility poles are partially submerged by the river water. The bridge that connected Burlington to Winooski was wiped out in the flood. Colchester Avenue is underwater. The bottom floors of the Champlain Mill are flooded, only the tops of the windows are visible. There is an open field on a hill in the background of the photograph. The picture was taken on November 4th.
