A Battery of Saws Cut Granite into Slabs

Title:
A Battery of Saws Cut Granite into Slabs
Town:
Barre
County:
Washington
State:
Vermont
Date:
1890 - 1920
Description:
Two men pose for a photo while a large block of granite is being cut into smaller slabs. The granite is resting on a table that is on wheels (?). This is surrounded by heavy metal framework that holds a group of 5 saws that all cut the granite at once, cutting it into 6 pieces. This is taking place in a large wooden barn. One of the wooden posts is visible to the far left. The floor looks to be wet, most likely from water used in the cutting process. One of the men shovels rock chips and dust in the foreground.
