Eli Mine Shaft

Title:
Eli Mine Shaft
Town:
Vershire
County:
Orange
State:
Vermont
Date:
1910 - 1940
Description:
This historic photograph documents the Eli Mine Mineshaft in Vershire, Vermont. In the foreground, a man stands on the verge of the mineshaft in a field covered with snow. Large wooden timbers support the mine opening, most of which appear to be stable and in good condition. On either side of the mine opening are large blocks, which appear to be remnants of previous, mine buildings. The hillside above the mine is forested with a variety of young deciduous tree species, which appear to be rooted in very thin soil. Season is spring.
