Title:
168 Archibald Street: Ahavith Gerim
Town:
Burlington
County:
Chittenden
State:
Vermont
Date:
2008-05
Description:
This present day photo depicts the building that once housed the Ohavi Zedek Synagogue, but is currently identified as the Ahavath Gerim (which emerged from a previous Synagogue located at 142 Archibald Street.) At the base of the building, the original stone foundation remains unpainted. The bricks on the face of the building, the face of the staircase, and the small additional building are painted pale shade of red. There has been new tree growth behind the small addition. The chimney of the building is no longer present. The piping between the second and third window facing Hyde Street is no longer present, but a small pipe has been installed before the first window. A new netted metal fence has been installed in place of the wooden fence; and an additional telephone poll and stop sign are in place of the previous street sign. Over the door archway there is a new sign in place reading Ahavat Gerim, which means “Love of Strangers.”
