Title:
264 N Winooski Avenue: Hebrew Free School
Town:
Burlington
County:
Chittenden
State:
Vermont
Date:
1950?
Description:
This historic photo demonstrates the brick two story structure that was established as a focal education setting for Hebrew education. This building was built in a Colonial Revival style, with a single center chimney. The front door faces N. Winooski Avenue and has four pillars surrounding the small covered elevated entrance. The second entrance is located on the far western side of the building and it has a stairway that leads up to the second floor. Below this entrance is a grassy enclosed yard, with a single tree. The front of the structure is surrounded with a small fence, a few shrubs and another flourishing tree which indicates the season to be spring or summer.

Description:
This photo depicts the old Hebrew Free School that is now occupied by a Vermont Law firm. The outside of the building is red brick with green and white trim. The photo was taken in the spring before the trees have started to fully bloom. In the foreground there is a green bike lock on the side walk. The green building next to the subject looks to be relatively new and freshly painted. There is a big telephone pole in the middle of the yard of the subject. Compared to the original photograph, a lot has changed. The small fence in the foreground of the original picture has been removed. The green building in the recent photograph was not present in the original picture. The landscaping has also changed as the trees and bushes seem to be in located in different places.
