Title:
A Lime Kiln in Leicester Junction
- Date:
- 1880 - 1910
- Description:
- A lime kiln at Leicester Junction. Grasses surround this structure of wood and stone - the building itself is made of wood and a stone bunker of sorts seems to have been built around it. A ladder leads to the large pipe vats that protrude from the roof. The black metal of the vat on the left seems slightly bent; they are both surrounded by wooden scaffolding to allow for safe access. Limestone would be poured into the top of these "shaft kilns" where the heating process and chemical reactions take place.
