Title:
A Vermont Marble Co. Quarry
- Date:
- 1934
- Description:
- This hand-colored postcard shows one of the Vermont Marble Company's quarries near Rutland. A wooden ladder goes from the ground surface through an excavated area to the mouth of the quarry. Another ladder goes down into the deep quarry. The quarry has been excavated in an organized brick-like fashion as evidenced by the demarcations on the quarry walls. Men appear to be working on mining machinery at the bottom of the quarry. On close inspection, some of the men and machinery appear to be drawn in indicating this is a hand-drawn postcard. Groupings of trees stand on the ground surface. All image rights reserved to Henry Sheldon Museum, www.henrysheldonmuseum.org.
