Women's Hairstyles
During the 1890s, women still maintained the "careless" locks hairstyles that began in the 1870s.
Soft, short bangs were again popular in the 1890s, with a very small topknot and loose, short hair around the temples and cheeks. Hair was sometimes worn in a bun at the nape of the neck. The woman in the image on the left wears her bangs quite short. The woman in the image on the right has a small topknot, and her hair is carelessly falling around her forehead and temples.

By 1896, bangs were out of fashion, and women began growing them out and flattening them down into a central part with waves around the temples.
