Title:
Construction on Bridge
- Date:
- 1954
- Description:
- This image shows construction on a bridge between Alburg and North Hero. There are large cement supports in the water with ladders from the water to the top of them. A crane is holding steel above the first support, where two men are working. There are ropes crossing the frame, connecting the support to the steel. Another man is on top of the steel section. In the background is another steel bridge. Beyond that, leafless deciduous trees and a wooden-framed house can be seen. At the time when this photo was taken, this bridge was under construction, replacing the previous swing span bridge between North Hero and Alburg crossing Lake Champlain. This information comes from "Crossings, A History of Vermont Bridges" by Robert McCullough.
