Title:
Construction on Drawbridge
- Date:
- 1951 - 1953
- Description:
- This image depicts construction on a bridge connecting Grand Isle and North Hero. On the left is a wooden platform with a wooden ladder that allows access to a concrete pillar, on which the bridge is being constructed. The bridge is made out of steel. There are several men in hard hats on top of it. There is a tall railing on the left side of the bridge next to a small house-like booth. There are wooden planks beneath this section of the bridge. Construction on this bridge began in 1951 and was completed in 1953. It replaced an older movable bridge, and is still operable today. It opens an 80-foot channel in Lake Champlain. This information comes from "Crossings, A History of Vermont Bridges" by Robert McCullough.
