Town:
Strafford
County:
Orange
State:
Vermont
Date:
1929
Description:
The back of the historic photograph reads, "The old concentration mill at South Strafford, somewhat remodeled, looked like this in 1929, the last time it was operated before the revival of1942. This is when it was taken down to make way for the more modern structures put up by the Vermont Copper Company." This historic photograph documents the old concentration mill at the Elizabeth min in Strafford, VT. In the foreground, a group of men, in full gear, appear standing in a hole adjacent to a young deciduous tree. Around the hole a number of shovels and excavation gear can be seen, suggesting this hole is still under the process of creation. Adjacent to the hill is a large earthen berm consisting of large cobbles and sand. At the top of this hill a small wooden fence can be seen. The concentration mill is a large timber framed dwelling, with numerous windows, wooden siding, tin roofing, and utility lines. Numerous deciduous trees can be seen lining the top of the hills in the background. season winter. Gwenda Smith: writes on 2006-12-17: Part of the processing plant.
