Description:
This photo was taken during the construction of the new Alburg-Rouses Point Bridge on US Route 2 between Alburg, VT and Rouses Point, New York. The bridge spans Lake Champlain. The photo shows a portion of the bridge nearly completed and one of the piers being constructed. It also shows the westerly end of the old bridge being used for highway traffic. The old bridge was built in 1938 and removed in 1988. The new bridge was opened to traffic on September 22, 1987. The new bridge was built by Cianbro Corp. of Pittsfield, Maine. The bridge took 2 1/2 years to complete. The houses and businesses in the background are in the village of Rouses Point. Riparian plants can be seen near the lake's edge. Further from the shore trees are visible.
