- Date:
- 1927-11
- Description:
- This image is a screenshot from a movie made using actual footage from the 1927 flood: This image is from a clip of the 1927 Flood Movie that begins with the caption "The crowd expected a bridge washed out further up the river to carry this one out -- It held however." This image shows the Charlestown Toll Bridge, spanning between Charlestown, N. H. and Bellows Falls, Vermont. This image shows the whole bridge taken from one of the banks. Note the high water, the debris stacked up against the bases of the bridge, and the large pieces of debris being carried by the river. Trees line the shore of the river in the distance. John Adams writes on 2014-06-05: This bridge known as the Cheshire Bridge connects Charlestown NH to Springfield VT. Bellows Falls is a village in Rockingham which is one town south of Springfield in Windsor County. Part of Charlestown borders Rockingham. Walpole NH is the next town south on Rte.12 Charlestown NH is in Sullivan Co and Walpole is in Cheshire Co. This bridge was a toll bridge until 1997.
