Title:
"Bus" For the Quarry
- Date:
- 1946
- Description:
- In this photograph, a large black truck, or "bus," is loaded with people. The truck is driving on a crushed marble stone road. The people are sitting in the back of the truck that has wooden backing built up from the sides. A large crowd of people is gathered behind the truck, and there are several cars parked in the open field behind the crowd. The road is surrounded by grass and deciduous and coniferous trees line the grassy area. The ridge of a mountain can faintly be seen in the background. This photograph appeared in a pamphlet released for the meeting of the three National Associations of the Marble Industry in Rutland, Vermont October 13-19, 1946. The "bus" took guests to the huge Danby Quarry so that they could be "shown the layers that produced the Supreme Court Building, the Jefferson Memorial and the Franklin D. Roosevelt monument".
