Description:: This image shows a crowd of people standing on Stowe Street in Waterbury, looking at the flood damage. Flood water has reached half way up the first floor of many of the buildings in view. On the right side of the image are two two-story brick buildings. On the left are two three-story brick buildings and one 1 1/2 story structure. At the end of the street is a single story house with several posts holding up an overhang over the front of the house. There are leafless deciduous trees (elm trees) in the background and a utility pole running through parallel to the street. This photo was taken in November after the 1927 flood. The faint outline of a mountain is visible in the background. Skip Flanders writes on 2009-11-21: This is the morning of November 4 standing on Bank Hill in Waterbury looking down South Main Street. The long building in the center is the new Fire Station that has floated out into Main Street. I had to be restrained with ropes to prevent it from crushing boats between buildings.
