Church of Immaculate Conception in winter

Title:
Church of Immaculate Conception in winter
Town:
Franklin
County:
Franklin
State:
Vermont
Date:
1916?
Description:
The historic postcard, sent Sept. 19, 1916, depicts a snowy view of a church and the surrounding grounds. A wooden fence surrounds the churchyard. A caption on the side of the postcard reads, "301 Church of the Immaculate Conception, R.C. Franklin, Vt. Published by F.L. Hopkins." Esther Munroe Swift writes on 2005-1-26: Note ladder on the roof... perhaps for snow removal or to fix the church bell? Mary O'Neil writes on 2007-04-23: I believe St. Mary's in Franklin was built in 1916, so the ladder may indicate the photo was taken near the end of construction? The stained glass windows have donation identification in French (they must have been added after - I don't see them in this photo.) This church was (sadly) closed by the Diocese of Burlington in 2005. A wonderful place to worship!
