Description:
This photo was taken of the new Alburg-Rouses Point Bridge constructed and opened to traffic in 1987 by the Vermont Agency of Transportation. The photo was taken from the fishing access area on the Alburg side of Lake Champlain looking towards New York. The fishing access was constructed on the approach causeway of the earlier Rouses Point bridge constructed in 1938 and removed in 1988. Note the fishing platform in the fore ground. The new bridge is a high level plate girder bridge which is 4056 feet in length and has a channel span of 250 feet for boat passage. The bridge has a vertical clearance of 60 feet in the channel span. Note the number of trucks on this bridge. Also note the approach causeway left in place on the New York side of the bridge for a future fishing access.
