Description:: This historic photograph shows an aerial view of the city, with The University of Vermont occupying a dominant position on the top of the hill and Lake Champlain in the foreground. Within the city, Maple, Main, and College streets can easily be seen, as well as numerous sidewalks, residential dwellings, and deciduous trees. By the waterfront, large boat and train shipping yards and depots are visible. There is also a large section of street between College and Cherry, which is undeveloped. In the background, cleared patches of land and islands of forest dot the landscape leading back to heavily forested Mountains. Dominant features that can be seen behind the city of Burlington include the highway, airport, and the town of Essex.
