Alburg-Rouses Point Bridge

Title:
Alburg-Rouses Point Bridge
Town:
Alburg
County:
Grand Isle
State:
Vermont
Date:
1985-10
Description:
This aerial photo was taken of the old Alburg-Rouses Point Bridge, which was constructed in 1938 and replaced with a new bridge in 1987. This photo shows the easterly end of the bridge and was taken looking westerly across Lake Champlain towards New York state. This bridge was removed in 1988. This bridge was 1800 feet in length and the new replacement bridge is 4056 feet in length. Much of the approach causeway on the east end was removed with the old bridge. This allowed for more water movement in the lake. The new bridge was constructed to the south of this bridge and was built with a curve in it to allow the swing span on this bridge to operate during the construction of the new bridge. Scattered buildings are visible across the lake. Trees and grass are visible near the lake’s edge.
