Title:
A Small Farmstead
- Date:
- 1910?
- Description:
- This is an image of a dirt road, farm buildings and a wooded slope. To the left of the dirt road are a couple simple buildings. One is perhaps a home, the other a barn with a hanging roof off the back. There is a pile of lumber in the weeds close to the road. The other building in view looks to be a home. It is wooden with a small front porch and smoke coming out of the chimney. There looks to be lumber piled in the front left of the house. The slope has both evergreen and deciduous trees. Esther Munroe Swift writes on 2005-1-24: It is not unexpected to find a photo of Glastenbury taken by Mortimer Proctor. He was an avid collector of all things Vermont. The son of Vermont Governor Fletcher Dutton, Proctor Mortimer was born in Proctor in 1889. Writing in 1929 in volume 3 of his monumental work: Vermont of Today, Arthur F. Stone listed only a few of Mortimer Proctor's interests & accomplishments: President of the Green Mountain Club, Vice-president of the Vermont Children's Aid society, President of the Vt. branch of the Sons of the American Revolution, Director of the Vermont Marble Company, Trustee of the village of Proctor. The story of Vermont's Glastenbury is one of two lost towns. Lost because the population dwindled so far that it was disenfranchised by the legislature in 1937.The family of Judge Norman Mattison had for some years filled all the town offices. Summer visitors were entertained by a sign which said their home was Chateau Fayville.
