Title:
Big Class of School #3
Town:
Guilford
County:
Windham
State:
Vermont
Date:
1931 - 1938
Description:
This is a photograph of the big class of school #3 located off of Route 5. Twenty five students and their teacher are represented in the photo. There are seven girls and 18 boys. All of the girls as well as the teacher are in light colored dresses past their knees with white socks and black buckled shoes. No one has hair past their chin. The boys are wearing cropped dark pants with white button-up collared shirts. The boy holding the baseball bat seems to be the only one smiling. The children are in a field, with huge trees surrounding them. School #3 was first built in 1809 and was used until 1958. Hinsdale’s town person Walter Harrington can be seen 6th from the left in the back row. The teacher represented in the photo was Miss Bills. The field in this photo was located behind school #3 in front of Christ church. This is where the boys enjoyed playing baseball and hitting home runs into the cemetery.
