Boutwell Milne & Varnum Quarry

Title:
Boutwell Milne & Varnum Quarry
Town:
Barre
County:
Washington
State:
Vermont
Date:
1905 - 1920
Description:
This photo captures men at work within a granite quarry. A building with a smokestack sits on the edge of the quarry, in front of wooded slopes. Railroad tracks on a trestle look to run past the building, in front of which stands a derrick. In front of the trestles, to the left, are a couple horse-drawn wagons. A couple groups of men stand at rock drilling machinery, that have jets of water (?) coming out of them. Men at the bottom are handling a chain attached to one of the derricks. More derricks, or power line poles, can be seen on the hill in the distance. Please see other related images of this quarry in this database.
