Drift Rock

Description:: This image shows the Drift Rock. The Drift Rock is a large erratic bounder on Mount Mansfield. Note the difference in vegetation in front of the boulder between the modern and historic images. In front of the boulder is low-lying vegetation. Behind the boulder, on the left, conifer trees and other alpine vegetation are visible. Lichens are present on the Drift Rock and extensive erosion has taken place since the historic image was captured. Kimberley Beal writes on 2008-02-01: Drift rock is located at the intersection of the Long Trail and Amherst Trail and is thus subject to recreational impact. Krummholz vegetation begins a few feet to the south of the image and a rock clearing stretches north.
