Burlington
County:
Chittenden
State:
Vermont
Date:

Description:
The current photograph shows the same view of Southwick Memorial Building and Coolidge Hall. An oak tree blocks the view of the music building façade. There is a sign that says "Southwick Hall" to the right of the stairs to enter the building. Behind it is a birch tree. In front of Coolidge are small trees and shrubs. To the right of the building are more deciduous trees. The front lawn for the buildings is now partially paved over for a sidewalk. The right side of the photo shows more lawn. Two light posts stand near the paved driveway on the right and one on Coolidge Hall side. The main entrance to Coolidge Hall is not enclosed any longer and here are metal handrails that lead up to each building. A car blocks the sign for Coolidge Hall.

Coolidge Hall
Town:
Burlington
County:
Chittenden
State:
Vermont
Date:
1951
Description:
This historic photograph of Coolidge Hall at the University of Vermont is from 1951. On the left is Southwick Hall. Its marble steps lead up to a portico with square columns. Three light fixtures are visible on the columns. The two-story faéade is partially hidden behind the columns. One of the doors to enter the building is visible with white lattice holding glass in place. Coolidge Hall is directly ahead. It is a three-story brick building with white stone accents along the roofline and in between the three sections of the dorm. The main entrance to the dormitory is enclosed in a white wooden frame with three windows on the front and one on each side. Each side section has a smaller covered entrance supported by thin white columns. There is a grassy lawn in front of both buildings. There appears to be a light post in front of the right section of Coolidge Hall. Cement walkways lead from each building to a curb for a dirt driveway. A large deciduous tree is on the right side of the photograph. It appears to be spring or summer.
