Aerial View Looking West Down Main
This historic photograph shows an Aerial view of the UVM farm in the foreground. In this photograph, Main Street is located on the far left hand side, and appears paved and lined with large elm trees and utility lines. As it travels west towards the lake it passes by Johnson House (590 Main Street), The Adams Building (601 Main Street), and the Burlington City Reservoir. UVM sits upon an open terrace, flanked to the north by Colchester Avenue, which is lined by deciduous trees. The Old Hospital, Commons Hall, Perkins Hall, and Mansfield House are located along the street. The UVM campus is bordered to the west by University Place, which also appears lined with trees. On University Place Morrill Hall, the old Gymnasium (Royal Tyler Theater), Old Mill, Williams Hall, The Billings Library, and Ira Allen Chapel are visible. East Avenue delineates the Western extent of campus, which is visible on the far right hand side of the photograph. The street appears to be paved, and lined with utility poles. While the majority of this terrace remains open, in its center sits Converse Hall and a heavily forested stand of conifer and deciduous trees. Surrounding Campus lays the city of Burlington, which is heavily forested in comparison to the land surrounding the city. In the background, a large cleared river terrace is in view, with small foothills visible in the distance. The season is most likely summer. UVM Campus
