Title:
Looking East from UVM Greenhouse
Town:
Burlington
County:
Chittenden
State:
Vermont
Date:
1920 - 1950
Description:
This historic photograph is a view from the front of the University of Vermont greenhouse looking east. A grassy lawn is in the foreground. There appears to be a small drainpipe in the ground. A hedge enters the scene from the right side of the photograph and a deciduous tree branch from the left. In the middle ground on the left is the rear of the present day Royall Tyler Theater with its concrete foundation and brick faťade. Smaller outbuildings appear to be attached to the back of the theater. The middle building is also made of brick but the last is wood. Next to these buildings are wooden chairs that are tipped over. In the middle ground on the right is a wooden fence enclosing the old tennis courts. A wooden pole and a couple deciduous trees hiding a small wooden building are in the middle of the middle ground. In the background, there are deciduous trees planted along a road or walkway. A wooden wall is in a field of tall grass. Over the trees, Converse Hall is visible on the right. A smokestack is visible over the trees to the left of Converse Hall. The season is most likely summer. UVM Campus.
