Delta Psi House
Town:
Burlington
County:
Chittenden
State:
Vermont
Date:
1920?
Description:
This historic photograph is the former University of Vermont Delta Psi House. It stands on the corners of Summit and Maple Streets. In the foreground, a driveway curves right as it approaches the house. On the right, there is a cluster of small leafless trees and shrubs. There are small mounds of snow on the property. On the left of the driveway, there are two deciduous trees. The house is three stories tall and made of red stone and brick. There is a red stone foundation supporting a porch that wraps around the back of the house. A person sits on the wooden railing of the porch holding her leg. A three-story tower is on the corner of the house. Windows wrap around the tower. Carved stone also wrap around the tower above and below the windows. The right section of the house is partially blocked by the trees. Two windows on third floor and a chimney above them are visible. The left section of the first floor of the house curves out to follow the layout of the porch. The second floor has a second porch with wooden railings. The second floor is squared off with a pair of windows above on the third floor. There appears to be a couple flags flying above the house. Beyond are conifer and deciduous trees. The season is most likely spring or fall. UVM Campus
