Title:
A View of Lake Champlain from Battery Park
- Date:
- 2008-04-26
- Description:
- In this image we see a view across Lake Champlain from Battery Park in Burlington. Behind the lake, on the far shore, are the Adirondack Mountains. On the far left side of the lake we see an island. At the edge of the park is a stone wall and railing, protecting pedestrians from the steep slope that lies beyond. In front of the wall is a park bench, and a sidewalk. Before the sidewalk we see two deciduous trees that have not starting budding yet. The season is spring. On the bottom of the photograph is a closed pavement road, and before that is a lamp post. The ground otherwise is covered in grass which is mixed with patches of dirt and leaf litter. Compared to the older photograph, we can see that the stone wall is a recent addition. Prior, spectators had accessibility to a view of some buildings on Burlington pier.

Title:
View of Lake Champlain from Battery Park
- Date:
- 1940 - 1945
- Description:
- This historic hand-colored postcard is a view of Lake Champlain from Battery Park. There is a dirt road in the foreground with an automobile parked along the side of it. In front of the road is a grassy area with two large elm trees. On the opposite side of the road is small grassy section with two more elm trees and a worn footpath that crosses it to the left side of the image. A bench sits on this grassy patch in the center of the image. Another dirt path crosses the image in front of the bench. The path splits and there are guardrails to the right side of the image. Past this point in the image there is a steep hill that is not visible, but the roof of a building is visible to the left. Some other white wooden-frame buildings are down by the waterfront, including the boathouse the left and the docked cruise ship. Lake Champlain extends out into the image, and the Adirondack Mountains of New York are visible in the background. The season is summer.
