Title:
Capitol Building from Across State Street
Town:
Montpelier
County:
Washington
State:
Vermont
Date:
1860 - 1870
Description:
The stereoview shows a view of the State House from the right side and across State Street. The street is still dirt and there are muddy tracks from vehicles or wagons and puddles along the sides. There is a sidewalk on the far side of the road and a thick wire fence with wooden posts surrounding a yard to the right of the State House lawn. There are several deciduous trees without leaves in the lawn. The lawn in the foreground has a large wooden pole in the center and some type of stage near the sidewalk. The hill behind the State House appears to be completely cleared. Is that a wooden crosswalk partially crossing the road?
