Title:
Sunbathing at North Beach
Town:
Burlington
County:
Chittenden
State:
Vermont
Date:
1950 - 1970
Description:
This image shows a view of North Beach along Lake Champlain in the summer. A variety of people of all different ages (but mostly young boys) play in the sand and water, relax, and sunbath along the sandy shores. An empty lifeguard chair is near the shore on the left. The beginning of Rock Point is visible in the distance. The point is forested with outcrops down near the shore. Deciduous tree branches are on the right edge of the image. The waves on the lake suggest that this was a windy day.

Title:
High Water at North Beach
Town:
Burlington
County:
Chittenden
State:
Vermont
Date:
2008-04-27
Description:
This photo shows North beach in early Spring. The boardwalk extends from the foreground along the beach. The beach is shortened by some degree from the high level of Lake Champlain and it is littered with driftwood and other washed up debris. A few early beachcombers can be seen at a picnic table in the distance. The shoreline extends North past the beach and just beyond the edge of the picture is Lone Rock Point. Grass on right, sand on left. The main differences between the earlier photo and the more recent one is the length of the beach. The earlier photo was probably taken during the summer, and the Spring thaw has created the high water level in the more recent one.
