Remembering the Flood of 1927 Burlington/Winooski
Town:
Burlington
County:
Chittenden
State:
Vermont
Date:
2009-07-08
Description:
Carol’s very exciting birthday visit to the site of the 1927 flood of the Winooski River. It is a wet, wet day but not as bad as in 1927. In the foreground, notice the brick wall’s notch where the front and side of the building meet. It matches the original photograph. Paved road on incline (leads to Chace Mill) leads from Colchester Ave. Large gray transformer box sits on the opposite side of the street from the brick building. Woman in red is yelling, “High voltage!” as woman in yellow approaches “the box!” Tree line mirrors location of trees in original photo as does the bridge in the background. Car and utility lines can also be seen.
